i7 980x  old chip its now 990x  (better the 600$ one  oc via fsb)
asus rampage iii extreme  (bad board better gigabyte ud5 rev 2.0)
gskill 8gb ddr3 ram?  you need 3x sticks so it 6 or 12g) 1600 ddr3 1.65v (1.5v better)
1tb hdd sata 3 (Huh?)  better a black wd 1tb hdd.)
razer mamba gaming mouse  (friend has this =ok)
logitech g19 keyboard (good recommend)
24" monitor 2ms response rate (? model)
antec nine hundred two tower case ? not sure  (psu? video card?) (dvd burner?)  sound card?

all that 4 $2000
reckon that build is good?

Im upgrading now(just ordered parts)

iv done 5 weeks of intense research .. reviews+ oc+ peoples personal exp with new hardware.

the 2600k  will oc to 5g at 1.5v(high voltage)  or 4.7  v1.3)  vs the 990x(new model)  get to 4.7(high voltage) or safe voltage 4.3ghz)

sense all stuff(games) only use 4 core .. 2 extra cores wasted.. + thw cpu that wins is the fastest one(highets mhz)

so the 300$ chips is just running faster than the 990x 1100$ 1366 cpu(fore core use)

the biggest problem is the mboard for the 1155 has low bandwith for 2x video cards.

best for theis is asrock fat 68 or gigabyte ud7 (68 chipset)

if not overclocking the 1155 beter platform...

if putting many raid card(20+ hdds) on board the 1366 better (gigabyte ud5 rec)

gaming machine..

iv done my homework....4 core(games only use up to 4)

the 2600k clocked to 5g  is faster than the 990x running at 4.7 (overclocked)

If your not overclocking.. dont bother with 990x.  1366 is been replaced with 2011 socket boards...

get a 2600 or 2500  run it it at default. in a 1155 board.

if overclocking get k chips...

this is what recommend

im getting a 2600k + 1155 boards ASRock Z68 Fatal1ty Professional Gen3  + ill oc to 4.7-5g
corsair 1600 ram

facts:

1600 ram good faster gives little improvement on this platform...
best 4 gig sticks at 1.5 or 1.65volts... so its 8 or 16g ram(2 to 4 sticks)

fast hdd wd black 1tb..

pioneer burner (reads sratch disks well(rentals dvds) + burns dl fast)

you need a big psu... 800+ for cpu+ 580 ti (1 x card) or 2x 560 ti in sli)  or 1200+ psu for 2x 580 ti card s in sli

)dont skip on crappy psu.. go for the best (i have the 1260w evermax+)

best bang for buck(good speed)  560 ti  (must be ti model)

best card 580 ti  (or 2x 580 ti)

if not overclocking get a 2500k cpu 1155  . it can clock high... and is at default 3.3  vs 2600k 3.4ghz

samsung best monitors... 3 year dead picx pol... full replace...led monitor best.

case.. you need 120mm fan at back+ 12 mm fan at front + extended long atx case(for blong bigpsu)

i prefer psu at top..(hard to get)

recommend aftermarket cpu heatsing..

but 2x 580 ti are 1100$(cat afford it)

or

sound cards.. rec 1 or 2

i have the fatility one...

Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium FATAL1TY Pro PCIe

ok

go

1) nvidia
(less problems + shoot em up =better with fps nvidia
3d+
physicx

sli (x2)
get 2ng gpu boost in most games 25-50% power from 2nd card(at best)  whats left of gpu power(not being used can power phyxics)

580x2  fastest setup (fps) typ 10-20frames at 1920x1200 more that 560 ti x2

fill rate for 1 580 is 153,  (295  is 112(x2) for 2nd gpu)   560 ti is 108....

570 ti is 134  + 590 ti  is 134(x2)

fill rate= (more fps)+ higer better, but 2nd card is sli you get 25-50% at best

so

1x 580 ti = 153.... but 2x is from -191  --- 229  (25% to 50% gpu usage(sli) scaling)  rest is for phyx

3x video cards = wast of time...

i pick the asrock board.. but the gigabyte 1155 ud7 good for sli at well

asrock board.. 2x 16 pci-e slots run at x8 v2.0  in sli.. but talk directly to cpu controller built into cpu..

gigabyte board (done use 2 of the 4x pci-e 16 slots..   the 2x slots (pci-e 16  run at 16x  .. but dont talk directly to cpu... they use bridge chip to get extra bandwith..(but ad latence(delay)..

(p.s if you use all 4x 16x slots they run at x8.. then you get a hit in sli

tests shown that .. over all either way..= same speeds. (for sli)

but future .. direct talk to cpu better.. esp pci-e v 3.0

but no cpu 1155  has pci-e v3.0 yet (not releaces.. as controler built into cpu)

asrock with newer future chip  more futer proof(say 6+ months)?> 1155 platform = 1 year life cycle)

so  both boards good.. but i picked the asrock board (cheaper= has floppy+ide+ holes for 775 heatsink)

i have a water block thats 775 (reuse it) + floppy+cardreader in 1 unit.....

im just bout 2 get this setup

ram: gskill 8gb ddr3 ripjaws (what speed===1600 ddr3, 2133?)
gpu: 2 way gtx580 sli  good(fastest setup need oc cpu at 4g to work well)
keyboard and mouse: g19 and razor mamba good
case: antec 1200
sound card: titanium x-fi  good
psu: corsair 850 hx 850 watts to small for s;li setup need 1200watts
cooling system: h100 hydro cooler (good for non overclocking- wont get high oc)
speakers: logitech x53   good
monitor: samsung 24" 2ms reaction time  good (what model they have a few 24")
mouse pad: razer sphex mouse pad  (? dont know?)

P.S  dont listen to sales people.. dumb, dont care .. prob have old stock in mb to sell...

cpu : intel i7 990x oc to 6.1ghz  (Huh  no one in the world has gotten 6.1ghz...  you must mean 4? high o was 4.9 with lig nitrogen - 200d celc...(for 10 min before cpu death)

mobo: gigabyte x58-ud7 (rev 2.0  is identical to ud5 (rev 2.0) except the heat sinks can add a water to it.. ud5 is same board oc the same..

check out pics...

980x oc slower than 2600k oc ..(  cores) 990x  not much better oc same as 980x

850w psu  for 2 580  xx dead psu =6 months if your luck with no cpu oc...  = 1 580 needs 370wats of power(just by itself) = 750-850 wats just for video cards no hdd +cpu etc...(if oc cpu need 130 watts + on top of cpus 90wats when overclocking cpu)

you need 1200+ wats of psu for 2x 580 video cards...boom for 800watts***************************

someones giving you bad advice.. on psu watts needed min....

990  (no ones oc) but avg oc (sim in make of 980x) should be 4.1g  extreme (10% of every 100 chips sold will get to 4.7ghz.. mega volts(custome high end water cooling needed...

ud7  is a ud5   with the option to hook up water cooling chipset..(which there is no need as it does not get hot enough)
(rev 2.0 boards)

well good luck... can just see crashing  when playing games in sli......(850w psu laught for 2x 580)Huh

1200 min recomended for 1000$ video card setups...

p.s each one oc 580 ti need 250-300watts power each card  + cpu+mboard etc...if oc cpu + 130watts

600-700 needed for video card. to be stable...240  for mboard (+ oc of cpu)  + 100-200 extras(hdd/water pump etc)

you want to run the psu with less power ie  only use up to 80% of its max power output..(makes psu last longer before going faulty)
